Control and Z keys not working even after keyboard replacement!

The Z and Ctrl keys were not working, I did an overhaul on the MacBook with new keyboard, touchpad, RAM & SSD. Even after replacing the keyboard with its new flat cable the Z and the CTRL keys are still not working.

When I do my 1st logon I see a bunch of Z’s one the password field, I go back to choose the user and the password field is now blank. It was doing that before too! I can't reset the SMC because the ctrl key isn't working…. help!
