Well, if you used a home button that didn’t come with the device, it will only function for the ‘click,’ not the Touch ID part of the button, only Apple can do this and still maintain Touch ID function.

This is not true on the iPhone 7 and 8, you're thinking of 5s-6s. Neither the home click nor Touch ID will be functional with a non-original home button on a 7.

I don’t know why people are saying it will continue to work, just without Touch ID. On the iPhone 7 and 8 series, if you replace the screen and don’t replace the home button with the original button, all home button functionality will be lost.

Edit: okay, there are some interesting replacement flex cables that kind of work, but in my experience they’re pretty cheap feeling and kinda finnicky, not to mention a fairly difficult repair relative to just a screen replacement.

If you move the home button from your original screen to the replacement screen, everything about the home button will work.

If your replacement screen includes a new home button and you don’t replace it with the home button from your original screen, everything about the home button will work except Touch ID.

Yes it causes it to not work because apple made to where it has to still have original home button or be fixed at their store. This was made to create it more difficult for us 3rd party repairers and it started with the iPhone 7.

If you only replace the screen and not the home button it should work.
