Repairing iPad 2 A1396 what part is this?

Hi, I’m trying to repair my daughter’s iPad screen. There’s a missing part inside. I must have accidentally removed it with the screen (space next to blue tool in pic)

Do you guys know what this is. So I can look it up to order?

Thank you!

Jessica

Sooo, adding to this all you genius experts on this subject. I by no means am an expert, just a DIYer. If the part I need to replace is the power flex cable, why does the volume and screen lock function work? I'm so surprised that they work, yet the power button does not. UGH.

The whole flex is an assembly, but the power button is connected to it by a single thin cable, which is the one you broke. The rest should not be affected by a broken power button cable.

Volume and power flex cable seems to be damaged indeed..you’ll need to have that replaced too. As @refectio pointed out that corner you marked in your pictures is where the camera is, can’t really tell from the pictures if it’s still in place but you should see it around if you removed, looks like a small silver cube with a small lens, but is screwed in place, not easy to be removed unless intentionally.

Darn it-darnit- darn. So, my best bet seems to be is to replace the flex cable?

It does not power on off from button.

Volume button does work.

The lock screen button works.

Rear camera is good.

Screen works perfect now though, lol.

@legtysgirl If you watch carefully you'll see the cable is like a branch of a tree, it connects at the logic board and then divides to serve the different buttons. You incidentally severed the power button connecting side, but you'll have to replace the full cable that is a one part replacement. Good to see you didn't lose patience with it ;) You may find help from the following guide as a reference: iPad 2 GSM Volume and Power Button Cable Replacement

Got it-thank you! I just ordered the part. Thank you for the link too.

Don’t really know which part you are talking about but if it’s the black part on the left, that is the top left antenna assembly. There could be several antennas inside so reuse the parts as much as possible even if you manage to order the new part.

Thank you Tom for taking a look. I should have specified. It is to the right of the blue tool. I am posting another pic. I lost power afterwards and it is below the the power button area. I found a part called the power flex cable. Which looks pretty intimidating. I’m not sure if I have replace a whole series of items now because of this one part. I do see what looks like a ribbon cut as well. I was so close to doing everything right

Right. After a second look, the power button flex cable is damaged. This is a pretty challenging repair because the cable is super thin, but it doesn't involve too much disassembly in other areas so it is possible with patience.

Thank you for confirming! Challenging, great, lol.
