Lines on right side of Screen

Hi about a week ago my macbookpro started to go crazy. Lines on the right side of the screen started to emerge. At first it was only about 1.5in but then another section started to emerge aswell. You can see it in the picture i took of it. To the left of white line in the messed up part is where the second section of the problem starts.

When i bend the right side of the screen back and left to the front the lines all disappear. At first they would go away by just tapping the screen but now it doesnt work. Pressure has to be applied to keep the lines out of the screen. Its really annoying. Sometimes those lines just become a black or white stripe. As in ONE WHOLE solid stripe. Apple said it needs to be replaced for $800. and i have no warranty. What do u think the problem is? Would it be just the cable or the LCD screen itself. I tried an external display aswell there r no lines. Screen shots show no lines either. It has to be something with the screen. But idk what to do. I want to open it up and take a look. Please tell me what to do? Also where do i find a guide from to open it up since its the UNIBODY macbookpro. got it in jan 2010.

Your most likely problem is the LCD panel. It's easiest to replace the whole unit but expensive. I's look over both the installation for the panel and the whole unit. Here's the panel: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody LCD Panel

Here's how to install the upper case: MacBook Unibody Model A1278 Upper Case Replacement

I had the same problem. It was indeed the LCD's fault, but I found a cheaper fix: applying pressure to the control board at the bottom of the LCD fixed the problem. I made it permanent by adding a piece of thick paper between the control board and the aluminum casing. Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue in the future.

UPDATE: My cheap fix lasted for about two months and then the problem started happening again, worse and worse. It was probably a bad connection on the LCD itself. I dished out $150 for a new LCD and that fixed the issue for good. Not cheap, but definitely worth it compared to the $800 Apple would charge for the same problem.

Yes, could be. But since there is no recall etc. on it, it will only be an academical question/answer. You still have to replace it if your is not working.
