Sprinkled Water On Keyboard

Good day!

So I placed my system on my dining table today and while preparing my food, I accidentally shook my glass of water and few drops of water went to my keyboard.

I immediately wiped it, even the sides of each key affected. Nothing has changed and it’s still working perfectly normal but I’m afraid it might suddenly damage the insides of my laptop.

I’m wondering if anybody has already experienced this and if yes, will my system be okay? Or, is there anything else that I need to do?

Thank you so much in advance.

The only reason why it sounds fine is because you used the term "sprinkled". Do you have any canned air? Tilt your computer up and spray the air around the keyboard. If you don't see any water come out your fine, If you see a lot of liquid come out take it to a specialist. I'd bet your computer is fine.

The size of the spill and what it was has the most bearing on how much of a risk you face here. If you take an eye dropper and drop a few drops into the keyboard with tap water in the middle of the keyboard the risk is very little as the water will evaporate and the keyboard design was improved in the 2018 models with rubber gussets which will control the spill as you can see here: Desmontaje del teclado de MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018. In addition the full keyboard is monolithic and sealed quite well on the inside.

Now if we had spilled wine or a soft drink with has acids & sugar things get more complex as the keys will get gummed up with the sugar and the acids could corrode things.

If you spilled a lot you will need to clean up the spill and at worse you’ll need to replace the uppercase which is quite expensive! $800.

So you likely missed the worse it could have been. Maybe its best to not have your system near food & drink.

It should be fine as it doesn’t sound too bad, however if you are still worried that water is inside the device, put it in a bag of silica gel or rice (silica gel is significantly more effective at draining out water, you can get silica gel by opening those little freshness packets inside shipments, the ones that say do not eat)

This is an old urban legend! Silica gl or rice only removes moisture within the air not a wet surfaces or devices.

Physically mopping up the spill is the only way to get rid of it. If its anything than water it may require rinsing and/or need to be neutralized.
