Why is my washer not cycling properly?

Hello all.

I could not find the Amana ropmload washing machine I actually have but this kenmore looks similar. My washing machine is an amana with a lid lock and the cycle lights that show where the wash is.

So for the past month my washing machine in my apartment has been acting up. I am not sure if we lost power or something but it worked fine before. When it first happened the washing machine would run fine when starting a load, but would get stuck right before final spin. The clothes would be soaked. I could move the dial to drain/spin and it would normally finish everything, but sometimes I had to do this twice. I tried resetting the motor by using the unplug and open method. Now the washing machine will pause for like 5 minutes after starting before water will come in and the wash starts and it still gets stuck before final spin. I just wonder why I can manually move the dial and it will work, but the cycle won’t go through like normal?

This washing machine is not following through on cycles, the machine fills with water but will not go through the rinse and spin cycles.

Cause 1

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the washing machine. If the water inlet valve is defective, the wash may fill slowly or not fill at all. The water inlet valve requires sufficient water pressure to function properly. First, check the water pressure to determine that it is adequate. If the water pressure is adequate, try cleaning the screens inside the water inlet valve hose connection ports. If the washer still fills slowly, replace the water inlet valve.

Cause 2

Low Water Pressure from House Supply

The home water pressure might be too low. The water inlet valve requires at least 20 psi to function properly. Check the water pressure to the valve to determine if it is sufficient.

So could that be what is causing the washer to get stuck before moving to the final spin cycle?? I don’t think it has been having an issue with filling, but rather with the starting/changing of cycles. It always seems to fill and drain fine, but gets stuck.

Also thanks for the input!

Is it the Final spin or the rinse cycle that hangs. If you are having issues with the water inlet value or pressure I would think there might be a hang up with the spin cycle.

It’s the final spin!

Hi @surberus4 ,

My first thought was that there is a problem with the cycle switch motor gears/cams/contacts not stepping the cycle around or operating at certain points.

Looking at the control panel parts the cycle switch (part #13) appears to be in the wrong place and the load size switch is missing when compared to the picture of the control panel in the user guide, so I don’t know whether the link I posted is correct or not. See image

This video shows how to access the cycle timer switch in an Amana NTW model (not your model) which may be of some help, if this is the problem, .
