Control is always on, key is not stuck

Hey all,

I have a 13" Unibody Macbook that had a bit of water spill on it.

After some time an inspection of the keys, it does not seem like anything is "stuck". However, the control function seems to always be on.

Every time I click, it right clicks and I can't type anything since it is acting as if control is on. The key itself is fine, but pressing it does not make any difference.

Recently, I noticed that I can generally left click everything fine but when I try to type (any key), it seems to flip the control function on which causes every left click afterwards into a right click.

Would a complete keyboard replacement fix this? Or would this be a logic board issue?

First I would follow the ifixit spill guide paying particular attention to the cable connection between the keyboard and the logic board. If the problem continues after the cleaning you should try a external keyboard. If good you may need a new keyboard/top cover depending on your model Macbook. If the external keyboard does not work you may have a logic board problem. Check back with us for additional info.

On my computer the "bar" or piece of metal that the plastic clip sits under go bent down. Try lifting up on the clip, if that fixes your problem take a knife and bend it up until it works correctly.

Hi,

how have you fixed the problem?

I have the same problem after pouring out some juice over my keyboard.

I hope you can help me.

there are two ways. replace the lid or if you are a cheap ass like me install karabiner. Here you can deactivate the keys upon bootup. some times after going back from sleep mode you will need to reload xml.

If you use a bluetooth keybord the buttons still work there but not the ones you deactivated on the main keyboard. If you are running windows you can turn the buttons off permanently but it also does it on external keyboard.

as you can see my left shift is the one being stuck. remember to deactivate password login on bootup since this might cause issues.

Physical contact issue does no explain how can it be fine again after rebooting my Macbook Pro. It should be a software issue I believe.

Can't you just put the laptop upside down and the water will come out. Or won't it just evaporate. Can this be fixed easily without paying for anything.
