error replacing new apple lcd complete assembly 2018

Hello, have interest to buy some apple parts, also some lcd complete assembly, concerning the following models.

My question is something about the screens, apple is having problems replacing these 2 models.

Macbook pro 15 inch mid 2018 A1990 emc 3215

Macbook pro 13 inch mid 2018 A1989 emc 3214

What is certain that when replacing the bad lcd with the new ones, the computer detects it and gives errors or does not work at all, which they say there is blocked, preventing it from working. Is this true or not?

Thank You

Can you give us a bit more here.

Do you have a system with a bad display? Can you explain what the problem is?

You also speak about Apple having problems with either EMC 3214 & 3215 What have you heard?

I think the “problems” you are hearing about are people trying to repair their Macs themselves which then they “trip” the T2 chip and then their machine is locked down.

Personally, due to how new this machine is I would just simply refer people to this Check Your Service and Support Coverage to check their warranty coverage and if they are covered under warranty I would have them go to an Apple Store and request service via there.

At the time of this post there is no way to bypass the “T2 lockdown” without special software and tools only Apple technicians have access to. Morale of the story is just to refer people (and yourself) to Apple if they/you have Macs made in <2016 that need servicing.

You don't want to brick your/other people’s expensive Macs, right?

iFixit did test swapping two Apple systems displays and that worked. I tried a 3rd party which failed to work. I've done a few 16 & 17 models no problem.

The T2 is a chip on your logic board which controls quite a few things. The issue here is the dialog between the logic board and the display have a key which the T2 checks before it allows the display to work.

@danj

Hi Dan, can you please confirm whether you have tried a 3rd party aftermarket display assembly for a 18/19 Macbook Pro model? Reason I’m asking this is whether it is worth it to try buying a lcd display from China (aliexpress) for the macbook pro 13 2018 model, the supplier states it’s original and some displays are even sold as slightly used with minor marks on it (does that imply that those used displays on sale originate from genuine macs hence would become validated by the T2 chip?)..I’m stuck with a cracked screen on this ultra fragile damned macbook and trying to find the most affordable way to repair it :-(
