Onkyo TX-NR414 No Audio, HDMI Board? NetworkChip?

Just bought a defective Onkyo NR-414. Fist of all i was surprised by the size an weight of it as I own an older entry-class receiver of Onkyo being almost twice as deep and twice as heavy at this one… well that said I bought it defective. I was told it is not starting up, so i supposed a defective PSU, but that one is working. The problem is that there is no sound. After some googleing I found out it could be the HDMI board, or better the Network or DTS chip. There are several Youtube videos and some fora whit information about it. But no fix because of an exchange Program, but that is exceeded. So how to fix it? Change the DTS chip?

Oh I also noticed that the USB does not have any power. It just missing the 5V.

I Also read that the NR515 and 616 having the same problem.

Hi @roman78 ,

Haven’t got an answer, but here’s a link to the service manual for the receiver.

To download the file, when the sentence below the Document preview box changes from This file is downloadable free of charge: ... processing… to This file is downloadable free of charge: Download, click on Download as this is the link. Be patient, it takes a little while to find the file.

The manual has full schematics and block diagram layouts for the receiver as well as a parts list which may prove useful if you find the faulty part.

Hopefully this may be of some help.

Hi Jayeff,

Thank for the Manual.

After some more reading it could be the DTS chip. But no one is 100% sure (like on MacBooK Pro were People can lay a finger on the defective chip or cap). Well i found the DTS-chip on Alibaba for 9 cent. That is worth a try.

Hi @roman78 ,

For only 9 cents each you can buy 2 or 3, just in case it is another fault which is affecting the DTS-chip and damaging it.

Good luck!

Its the dts chip for the sound but the hdmi is the surface mounted capicators . I think 5 of them need to be repllaced. I heated up my dts chip but burned it all, got too hot. And i accidentally touched and moved it and its all gone , capitut, over. So im calling onkyo tomorrow for an upgraded board .

Hi @Timothy Godwin - do you have details of the fix? Or details of how much the hdmi board cost from ONKYO? I think I could replace the DTS chip because I've done that sort of thing before. But I'd like to try replacing the caps first, which ones need replacing? Thanks!

Also, the DTS chip on mine is labelled 'NEW' - is this a repaired board or is the label from the factory? I'm not sure...
