Why is the new iPad Pro 12.9" louder then the new iPad Pro 11"?
I used a decibel meter to test on both the 11” the 12.9” iPad Pro’s. The 12.9” averaged between 8 to 10 Db’s louder …

The IFIXIT teardown team hasn’t done the teardown’s on the newest iPads so its anyones guess on how Apple pulled it off. For such a thin iPad this year it’s quite impressive!
It’s clear Apple has been putting more effort on sound quality generation to generation of the iPads and MacBook Pro’s.

@sirtslker - It looks like we have an answer! Check out the teardown here: Desmontaje del iPad 11". Check out Step 5! Unlike the older model this model has four woofers and four tweeters! Eight speakers elements over the older four!

Thanks Dan … My question is why is the new Ipad 12.9 louder then the new Ipad pro 11”? The teardown was very interesting for sure … Hopefully the teardown of the 12.9 will tell us why …
@sirtslker - I'm sure it's the same design! The air chambers might be a bit larger.
I agree. I think the larger chamber must help with the sound volume... I can’t wait to check out the 12.9 teardown ...

How did you measure things in a proper anechoic chamber or within a quiet room? And the direction to the device? Aimed at the screen, or from the side or back, and at the same distance?

I did the test in a Apple store after they closed.. My Ipad Pro with the top of it level on the table with the top of each Ipad pro top to top ... Each Ipad touching the top of my Ipad with Decibel X recording them ...

Sounds like you may have blocked two of the speaker ports.
If you can redo your tests I would place the systems in landscape so the speakers are aimed to the left and right and hold the meter about 20 inches away in the middle from the screen.

I did not block the speaker ports ... Even without the app from Decibel x running you can hear a noticeable difference... I have the video of what I did ... I am going to run the test again today ... It's unbelievable to me that the Ipad pro 12.9 is so much louder than the Ipad pro 11 ... I am under the impression that it has the exact same speakers so therefore the only thing that I can think of is the size of the iPad 12.9 is making the difference .
