Why don't I have audio?

I have probably spent hours upon hours searching the internet trying to figure out the problem.

I bought a computer from IBUYPOWER last year, and none of the headphone jacks worked from the box. I didn’t care much because I have USB headset. I don’t even regret buying the PC because everything else works properly and I haven’t had any issues with it besides this. However, now that my G430 is showing it’s age; I wanted something different, however, the headset I want is not USB.

I’ve tried everything from uninstalling drivers, making sure my audio was up, making sure my audio was on the correct playback device option, and even testing and buying different playback devices. This is my last ditch effort.

One thing that is odd about my computer, and I’m not sure if this has anything to do with anything. My motherboard is a ASUS H110 Plus (the reason I put “asus desktop”) and there is orange coloring (example below) around the audio jacks in the back and it goes down to a cord.

I’ll appreciate any help. Have a nice day. - BengalShark

Hi @bengalshark

The audio connections at the back of the case are hard mounted onto the motherboard.

The audio connections on the front panel of the case are connected via a cable to the motherboard.

Here’s an image taken from the user manual for your motherboard.

Item #8 is the audio connector to which the cable for the headphone sockets etc. from the front panel connects.

From your picture I cannot see if this is the same one but it should have a cable connected to it going to the front panel of the case.

This connector is “keyed” so that the 9 pin cable only goes on one way

Depending on what type of audio module you have in the front panel of the case you may also have to check the audio setting in BIOS to ensure that it is set correctly.

If you have an AC97 audio module then you’ll have to change the setting, as it is set to HD Audio by default.
