Screen fault // logical board - working when closed

Hi

Firstly thanks for taking the time to read this. My A1502 13” was working fine, until I shut the lid followed by a unfortunate drop, no more than 5/6 inches onto a rug. I thought nothing of it due to the lack of height and visually didn’t seem too destructive.

I was then greeted by a black screen upon reopening a few hours later.

Now, in terms of troubleshooting, I have done all the required resets, as well as opening the back up, taking everything out and rebuilding. I did not remove the trackpad or batteries.

I can get the laptop to work with no issues when using and external monitor via HDMI. I I also have to have an external keyboard/mouse connected and have the lid closed (I have to quickly shut the lid upon powering on). If I try to open the lid once logged in it will cease to work correctly, and freezes. Another observation, on initial power I have no keyboard backlight, but do have a green-light on the caps lock.

Now my question is to what the issue is and what component/s may I need to replace to get this rectified.

Thanks,

Ollie

Solución Elegida

These retina screens are very fragile with just about 1mm thickness and it takes very little to break them..a few inches distance bump was probably enough to create an internal short on top of breaking it. When you close the lid, power to the screen gets cut off and Mac can work. If you can live using it with external monitor you can try unplugging screen from the logic board, but if you want to use it as laptop there’s no other solution but replacing the assembly, replacing screen only is very difficult and might be unsuccessful in the end.
