Trackpad not clicking after some use

The trackpad on my MacBook Pro (13”, 2017, No Touchbar) refuses to register clicks after 30 mins - 1 hour of use. Sometimes I have to press really hard for it to register, and often, as I hold (not press) my finger on the trackpad, it registers as constant clicking.

The MacBook had water spilt on it and the top case was replaced.

The same thing happens to me, I have already tried everything last, reinstall the maos and nothing, the only way to make it work again is to leave the mac off for a few minutes, then it works a few minutes and it loses the click little by little until it stops working, would the solution also be to replace the trackpad?

@Oriol Tinez - Lo siento, sí, también necesitas una nueva unidad de trackpad.

Sorry yes, you also need a new trackpad unit

OK, thanks, but it's original isn't it? Because I already bought a trackpad from another manufacturer Olive I think and it stopped working until the keyboard connecting it and the trackpad did not work I had to put the old one back

@Oriol Tinez - Lamentablemente, debe utilizar la parte correcta de Apple [producto vinculado inexistente o deshabilitado: IF123-057-3]

Sadly, you need to use the correct Apple part [producto vinculado inexistente o deshabilitado: IF123-057-3]

Solución Elegida

You should go back to the place you got it fixed if its still under repair warranty. It sounds like they didn’t replace the Touchpad (trackpad). Unlike older models your’s uses a taptic engine for the feedback of the click. Luckily, the part is very easy to replace! Have you got it fixed? I have the same problem and I have never replaced or damaged anything on my MacBook. The trackpad clicking is great when I turn on the device but after 30 minutes it becomes so firm to click. @danj any ideas?

Do you wipe your system with a damp cloth? The cleaner likely seeped into the gaps and into the touch surface sandwich damaging it. These larger Touchpad's are more prone I've replace two so far this year and one person here is also encountering issues as well.

The ones I have fixed all used cleaners often spraying it directly on the system and wiping it off. This offers the window for the cleaner to get where you don't want it! LCD or Trackpad/Touchpad both can get damaged!

I strongly recommend you spray the cloth not the hardware with any cleaner!!

Time for a new Touchpad for you as well...

Hey, the trackpad was working all winter normally, but started acting up again during summer, so I'm guessing it has to do with the leftover liquid from when I spilled it that condensates at higher temperatures. I definitely have to replace the trackpad.

I have exactly the same issue

My guess so far that the battery is what pressing on the trackpad.

Because older models had this issue.

Now I am waiting for my iFixit toolkit to open the laptop and see for myself.

And from my guess, it has to do with high temperature.

See if placing the system somewhere cooler and hold off charging it as well.

If you are in a humid place, place your system in an airtight bag sucking out the air before you put it the fridge if that's the best you can do.

Did that help?
