Can I replace a Spanish keyboard with a UK English QWERTY one?

I have a MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2010 Model A1278 and time ago drop some liquid in the keyboard and the Caps Lock key is always on and there are some keys that doesnt work properly. So I am thinking to replace all the keyboard. I found a nice UK keyboard and I wonder if I could replace for my Spanish keyboard. Is that possible?

Thanks for reading me.

Operation have been done successfully. It is possible swap Spanish keyboard for a UK keyboard. And is not necessary change all the entire upper case.

I followed this guide:

And this one:

Thank very much for all your comments. Have been very helpful.

@p4r5i Glad you made it ;) A bit tedious with all those screws but not too difficult after all..

Of course you can do that, if it’s a UK keyboard. Just pay attention to the form factor, you could’t do that if it was an american english keyboard. It’s a time consuming job, as it needs logic board and superdrive removal, but it you have time and patience to deal with about 100 screws, it won’t be a problem, just make sure you have the necessary tools.

The differences is the size of the keys and the cutouts within the uppercase.

Basically, there are two uppercases US & ISO. The ISO keyboards are interchangeable (UK to Spanish as an example)

Converting a US to UK or other ISO keyboard will require a complete uppercase swap. To be honest I don't think its worth it if there is nothing wrong with the keyboard. If on the other-hand the keyboard is bad then it might make sense.

Thanks a lot for your comments guys! I will try it :D

You only need the keyboard sub-assembly not the full uppercase. A UK keyboard based system uses the ISO uppercase and the Spanish keyboard does as well.

Even still I would just get a keyboard overlay and be done with it! A quicker as well as cheaper solution.

If the current keyboard was bad then I could see replacing it as a viable solution.

Swap the Spanish keyboard with UK one then replace the UK keys with the spanish ones and you'll get a Spanish keyboard.

Hi,

I may have a cheap and super easy solution for you:

https://www.rovara.nl/macbook-keyboard-c...

Its a little bit barbaric maybe but if it gets the job done its not so stupid haha. But make sure if you use it to change the keyboard language in you settings first to US international.

Yes, this is possible but difficult. You have to remove basically every single thing inside the Mac in order to move it over to your new top case. This is not a beginner project!

Hi! Thanks for your answer. I am going to try it. But Can I replace just the keyboard?

And are compatibles Spanish and UK keyboards?

Thanks.

I was going to follow this tutorial: https://youtu.be/XJRHW-xpbyo

@p4r5i Unfortunately you must replace the entire upper case if you ever want your keyboard to be fully functioning again. I am not aware of any other upper case replacements that are in Spanish or U.K. format, maybe @danj or @mayer know of top case replacements with that language.

Thanks a lot for your comments guys! I will try it :D

Why would the OP need to change the entire upper case if he's got the time and patience to replace just the keyboard.
