iPhone 7 Plus- boot loop after screen repair

Hey Guys,

I have an iPhone 7 Plus that goes into a boot loop. I bought it like that and the previous owner told me this happened after a screen repair.

The phone does only boot when the charging cable is plugged in. Regardless if the battery is connected or not. The Apple logo shows up for about 5 seconds and then it reboots. I only connected the screen and digitizer WITHOUT the home button, speaker, proximity sensor and so on. iTunes does not recognize the phone at all.

What is most likely be broken? Unfortunately I don’t have the old screen since the previous owner didn’t give it to me.

Update (09/27/2018)

Thank you very much Minho.

I just ordered a battery to see what is broken (still have some hope). I thought it can not be the battery because it does show the logo with and without being connected. I saw a video where the Audio IC is broken and there the logo kept on the screen for a long time. In my cases, the phone reboots quite quickly. Not sure if I can derive anything from that anyway.

@Cartersville Cellphone Repair: If the charging port is broken, why is the phone turning on at all? I considered the charging port as well. If it is so, the new battery will still work, but as soon as it is drained I would have the same problem?

I’ll keep you posted.

An iPhone will not fully boot without a working battery. If you disconnect the battery, or if it si dead, then the phone will boot-loop. There is a (small) possibility that replacing the battery could solve this problem. The key here is that this problem occurred after a screen replacement. This could very well be an Audio IC issue and it is known to occur following a screen repair. There is a small copper trace that tends to get damaged under this IC and among the symptoms, long boot-looping is typical. The other symptoms would be various audio issues but you won’t see those until you get the phone to boot completely.

What’s probably happening here is that the battery is fully depleted and will not take a charge, either because it is defective or because it requires activation. By installing a known-good battery, you will be able to see if it boots and has Audio IC symptoms or if there is something else wrong. Anything other than a bad battery will require a micro-soldering repair.

I would try and change out the Charging port. Then with it turned off hold the volume down button plug it into itunes. You will see the restore with itunes message. Try to update and not restore. Let us know how it goes.
