Sim card ejection tool accidentally inserted in upper mic.

Hi,

i accidentally inserted the sim card ejection tool into the upper microphone hole while trying to replace the sim card. i felt a jerk (like the tool tore or broke something), i have tested my microphone and it works just fine, however, i am worried if i have broken or damaged the waterproofing of the phone. i observed the performance and any damages to the microphone for a week now and everything seems to work fine.

the only concern i have here is if my phone’s waterproofing is damaged.

Thanks,

Danish Khan.

My guess is NO. :)

I have a couple of opened up S9 (not S9+, which is why I’m only guessing) and the water seal is placed to the side of the hole where you would have inserted the tool. I put a tool in there and wiggled it around and could do nothing to the seal.

Also, the seal is very delicate so even if you break it, you would not feel it, so I have no idea what the “jerk” you felt might be.

So again, I guess you didn’t damage the water proofing but, just in case, don’t go swimming with the thing. ; D

you can see the seal in this image on the tear-down.

see what I mean about the seal being on the side and not at the end of the hole?

Hi Santiago! Thank you for the great response to Danish! Do you know if the bottom mic is placed to the side of the hole as well? I had the same thing happen with a SIM tool + the bottom mic on my S9+.

Hi Kevin.

Yes. you can see the image on the tear-down here, https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/ig...

now, remember all the same caveats that I said to Danish, they still apply.

good luck.

Hi Jyri, did you know at the end whether it did or didn't compromise the water resistance? I feel like this is being done intentionally by Samsung, they could make the holes smaller but no they make them the exact size so mistakes like this could easily be made.
