htc desire Wont connect to pc to transfer data

Hi,

I am trying to transfer data/media from an old htc desire to my pc fr my friend as he has pics of hid dad (now sadly passed away) and his daughter. The screen is broke, but phone still powers on and charges. However it wont show when i connect it to my pc, apart from my antivirus asking to scan it. How can i get it to connect and what software can i use to pull the media, he also has a old nokia with the same problem. thanks
