A1466 MacBook Air wont power on

Hey,

I’m looking for some troubleshooting advice.

I recently took my MacBook Air on holiday with me to Mexico as I thought I may have to do some work whilst I was out there. Thankfully this was not the case, so the MacBook remained in a drawer throughout my holiday. The Device worked perfectly upto this point.

On my return to the UK I went to turn on, heard the chime but then the device cut out. Attempted to turn on again, no love.

Troubleshooting attempted thus far:

  • Fully charged the device, no joy.
  • SMC and NVRAM reset no joy.
  • Various power cycles.
  • Taken backplate off, disconnected battery, attached MagSafe, device won’t power on, light on MagSafe starts green goes orange.
  • Repeated above with attached battery, same behaviour as above.
  • Bridged power pad to attempt boot, no sign of life.

I’ve run out of ideas, looking for suggestions to identify the potential problem and hopefully the fix.

Any help greatly appreciated.

In addition to this I notice there is some residue on the board near the power input, is this normal?

Having performed another SMC reset the the Mag safe is now showing a green light wither battery attached rather than orange. However, with battery disconnected, the light starts green then displays orange. I read this is strange behaviour.

Do you get into the habit of putting your system to sleep Vs turning it fully off? Could have done that, letting your system sit in its case this way.

Honestly, yes I do often leave the system in sleep mode as apposed to fully powering off. What issue would this have caused though?

Well thats good news getting SMC to reset. plug the battery back in and leave it be. At this point I'm hoping leaving the system plugged in for a good eight hours will allow the battery to recover.

Think that’s is unlikely. Left on for around this time on Wednesday when I landed and this first occurred but still in the same scenario.

But you just got the MagSafe connection to work starting out as Green and then going to Amber so now you need to let it charge. If thats not the case I think you burnt out your logic board.
