Help Sierra upgrade stopped working and I cannot restore previous so x

I was trying to transfer my old iPhone backup onto my new iPhone and the upgrade to Sierra came up and stupidly I clicked yes. Well it said there was an issue and to try restarting, I tried 5 times and it wouldn’t work, I tried the repair option then reinstall OS X and it installed but when I went to load it said I couldn’t install as there was a newer version! Help I cannot load my mac and I desperately do not want to lose all my data.

Update (08/17/2018)

It’s a MacBook Pro 13” I tried safe lad but nothing happened. I don’t have another Mac, unfortunately.

Can you tell us what your exact model is. Review this listing: EveryMac - MacBook Pro list

We really need to know which of the many MacBook Pro's Apple has made as the parts and issues are not the same across the different series.

So far we now know its a MacBook Pro 13" not 15" is that correct? What year was it? can you give us that at least.

Think of it this way you call your doctor and tell him your in pain and don't tell him where the pain is, so how can he help you?

I think I purchased it in either 2011 or 2012

msg Please go to the site Dan gave you and input your serial number, it's printed on the back cover, then tell us what you are driving. This is very important as there are know issues on different machines. https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup...

Otherwise take two aspirin and call us next week.

Did you try to load in safe mode? If it doesn’t work you need another mac to create bootable USB and instal it it from there. I think data will not be affected. If nothing else work you will have to install it clean.

You shouldn’t perform hard restart, but use terminal “sudo shutdown -r now” command.
