issues with touch id

Hey, yesterday replaced whole screen + lcd for my iphone 6 from a donor phone, changed the button as well. Yesterday phone worked like a charm, as well as touch id. But today, touch id randomly stopped working and shows notification, button functionality remained.

Any ideas whats the issue?

For me it`s very strange, that at first it worked as normal, but just randomly stopped working…

@jessabethany , @refectio thank you for your help. I was living with that problem for a few weeks and recently opened my phone once again to solve that problem. Found out that cable just broke because of the reason, that it needed to be glued like it was done in factory. I managed to get another working button, placed it again, glued and it works just like a button, of course without touch id functionality, but it is totally fine by me.

There is no signature problem “fingerprint sensor just stopped working” So you are left with the common problems that always lead to no fingerprint sensor—-you tore the long flex cable or have a bad one, have water damage in the home button connector, or have pry damage or poor connection at the logic board. Troubleshoot these with a different long flex and take a look under the microscope.

As I noted, - at first button worked just fine, but after some time it just randomly refused to work and it is the main question that I want to get answered to... if it worked after screen replacement, it means that the cable was not damaged. (?)

No it doesn't mean that at all. I means nothing different than fingerprint sensor not working. When these things go bad it is always tiny tears or tweezer marks in the flex--there is absolutely no evidence that you don't have a tiny tear. You installed it, it worked initially, then with normal use of the phone the tiny tear stopped making connection. Read my answer and start troubleshooting.

My guess would be the home button rubber gasket was not replaced with a new one. Without it the button tend to rotate a little bit and may have increased chance of tearing the cable.

You may have damaged the Home Button flex (the one on the button) or the Home Button Link flex (the one that runs underneath the LCD heat shield) while replacing the screen. The damage may have been minimal but enough to eventually stop working.

Open up the phone and take a close look at the flexes and their connectors to see if there is any damage or tears. The Link Flex can be replaced.

I`ve heard about that, as I noted, it worked after screen change... that the main question for me :/

Process of my screen replacement: opened both iphones, unscrewed 5 screws holding that metal bracket, unplugged 4 cables, unscrewed 2 screws from screen, that were holding metal bracket over touch id button, gently took out button, placed another from original phone, screwed it all back and it worked just perfectly.

But in a magical way today touch id refused to work, unlike it did yesterday.

The important thing here is that it no longer works. Open it up and inspect the flexes, it's not uncommon for minor damage to cause failures down the road.
