If i didn't make it kick back on i don't think it would by itself cause there's been several times that it was off longer than it should have been. It's a whirlpool side by side model#ED5FHGXKQ00

Hi @rogernivens ,

If you don't do this what happens?

Does it turn itself on a bit later or not?

Is it keeping the correct temp in both the fridge and the freezer?

It may be that the fridge is just in the auto defrost cycle.

This turns the fridge off once every 8-12 hours (depending on maker) so that the frost buildup on the evaporator in the freezer and in the freezer compartment can be melted and drained away.

During the defrost cycle, the compressor and the evaporator fan in the freezer are switched off and the temperature in the freezer is allowed to rise to just above 32 deg F (0 deg C) so that the frost (or ice) build up melts and is drained away. The process is sped up by turning on a defrost heater.

The whole process is controlled either by the defrost timer or the main control board.

Once a suitable time has elapsed (usually somewhere between 15-30 minutes), the compressor is switched back on (along with the evaporator fan) to drive the temp in the freezer back down to 0 deg F (-18 deg C). Correspondingly the temp in the fridge will go back to approx 37 deg F (4 deg C).

If your fridge is not behaving a lot like this, what is the problem and what is the make and model number?

Hi,

How long it off for then?

As I said it could be up to 30 minutes.

Here's a link to the location of the part for your fridge that controls the defrost cycle.

Part #6 is the Defrost Timer

This is the part that controls how long the fridge should stay off during the defrost cycle.

Here's a link to the part itself.

If you decide to replace the part, it is not a recommendation to use the supplier shown.

It's just shown to give you an idea of the price of the part.

There are other suppliers available online
