Can I replace iPhone 6S battery with a higher capacity one?

I got my iPhone 6S in January 2015. It is still working well except the battery, which I am going to replace.

I would like to know if in the past 2-3 years there have been some new batteries compatible with iPhone 6S with a higher density than the original one ?

Thanks

I’m amazed that you got an iPhone 6s in January 2015 and Apple only released it in September 2015 :-)

You can get higher capacity batteries for the 6S now. I just installed one in my 6S last month which is putting out 2200mAh, as opposed to the 1715mAh it rolled out of the factory with. I have measured that capacity, I'm not just stating the manufacturer's claims. So yes, it is possible, but I don't believe they've managed anything higher than 2200 just yet.

@T W - Don't get taken! Anything higher is just marketing BS! The chemistry and the physical size dictates what's possible.

Think of it this way... A litter bottle can't hold more than a litter of water as much as someone will try to tell you they can do it.

No, there are no "high capacity" batteries. You can print whatever you want on the label but the chemistries haven't really changed over the years.

Check out this guide written by none other than @oldturkey03 himself for proof!

Thanks.

I just saw on this very forum a thread where they say you can put an iPhone7 battery in an iPhone6S and it will work. This would be interesting and a nice bump in battery capacity.

The difference is pretty minimal but if it fits, why not.

- de

So you're gaining 2-3 minutes more! Not worth it!

- de

14% increase ( from 1715 to 1960 mah) seems like it would be going from 8 hours to 9 hours battery life.

@danj how can you say it?

hey so I just changed my iPhone 7 battery with a newer one and effectively it worked pretty well for the battery life because it is recommended to change the battery of your device every 2 years. so I can give you a little advice because you cannot find a battery bigger than yours very much so the advice is that you should move some of your files on your computer and delete some of your old apps because the more the phone is full with stuff the more the battery consumption is high so that s your best shot

hope this might help you

regards

Already tried the high capacity for an iphone 6s, nohon 2250 mAh, i preorder it online and put it in the phone by myself, and its actually holds longer than the original battery. I got an extra 2 hours standby time which is total of 5-6 hours compares to original which is max 3 and half hours of screen on time.

Yes, you can replace the iPhone 6s battery with a higher capacity one. I recently came across this iPhone 6s battery replacement review guide and got Ibestwin battery for my iPhone 6s. It’s amost a 50% hike in the battery capacity as compared to original one.

Once you get it, do replace the battery yourself to save additional costs. If you’re wondering how to replace the battery, check this post from iFixIt experts and you’re good to go!

I don’t know the date the “Myth of high-capacity batteries” article was written that is referenced in the above chosen solution, but there’s a fairly recent one done by a reputable website, the Cult of Mac, in Feb. 2020, where they did the same test with two high capacity batteries and one of them lasted 26% longer. But they also found the other one barely lasted longer.

So it’s definitely NOT a myth, but it depends a lot on the manufacturer it seems… Which is pretty hard to know up front, unless you are pretty confident what you're buying.

It’s too bad iFixit does not sell a higher capacity battery, as they could easily do the tests, and then choose one that really gives you more power.

Here’s their article, which as a bonus, is based on the iPhone 6s! https://www.cultofmac.com/686299/replace...
