Dryer spins but no heat (Maytag MED9600SQ)

Maytag dryer seems to be operating fine other than it doesn't seem to be heating at all. The heater was replaced in '07. Manual just says to check house breaker, which I did, and then call an electrician.

Please give us the model number, I don’t know if it is a gas or electric.

Cause 1

Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to protect the dryer from overheating. The fuse is located on the blower housing or at the dryer’s heat source such as the heating element on electric dryers or at the burner on gas models. The fuse should be closed for continuity meaning it has a continuous electrical path through it when good. If overheated the fuse will have no continuity meaning the electrical path is broken and the fuse has blown. A multimeter can be used to test it for continuity. Be aware that a blown thermal fuse is an indication of a restricted exhaust vent from the dryer to the outside. Always check the dryer venting when replacing a blown thermal fuse.

Cause 2

Replace the dryer heating element

The heating element generates the heat needed to dry garments. If the dryer is not heating, check the element for visible damage and replace the heating element if it's broken. Almost all electric heating elements require 240 volts to function correctly; if the heating element won't heat even though it's getting the 240-volt power, replace it even if it doesn't look broken.

Is the exhaust hose blocked or clogged? I’ve had a dryer that wouldn’t dry because it couldn’t exhaust the air.

Check the electric outlet for 240 volts if it is not the gas dryer.
