Replaced battery after water damage but now it won’t charge

Hello all,

So I recently replaced my MacBook Pro battery with a replacement battery I ordered through ifixit, the repair went well and I was going through the battery calibration of letting it die, recharging it fully, die again and then use normally and after letting it initially die (after installing the new battery it showed 40%) it won’t charge at all.

Before replacing the battery I had to have my MacBook constantly plugged in for it to function at all since the old battery was ruined. Now the connection light won’t even come on when I connect the MagSafe cord.

Any recommendations how to proceed? I reopened up the laptop and don’t see any loose connections or anything - I tried resetting the battery with the control, shift, option and power button reset but nothing, I’ve also confirmed the outlet works, as well as checking the MagSafe connections. I’m lost as how to proceed other than another complete battery replacement?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you

Water can be a serious problem at times....especially when it comes to electronic devices. Just try with a hit and trial method first and if it doesn't work out then you should probably visit a technician in order to bring it back to the stage of operation.

Sad to say you likely need to remove your logic board and do some cleaning as you still have water damage present which is interfering with the power control logic which charges the battery.

It will likely need some repairs are you up to micro-soldering? If not I think its best to find someone near you who have the deeper skills and access to the needed parts.

Well the battery is dead since I let it completely drain so it won’t boot up. When I attempt to power it on it shows a “need to be charged” symbol with a cord and power outlet and red battery

Thank you for the input. Unfortunately my computer prowess only extends to building a computer and not so much in repairs. It seems like I will be heading to a repair shop in the area. Thank you for the help!

Much appreciated.
