Apple Hardware Test Result : 4M0T/4/40000003: HDD-1510

Hello there,

after trying many things because my screens turns black (iMac 27" - 2011) i ended running an apple hardware test & yes, i got a hardware problem, the result is : 4M0T/4/40000003: HDD-1510.

I couldn't find a proprer answer to this. It is obviously related to the hard drive itself or to the hard drive's fan. Could someone tell me what it is exactly ? So i know what to fix ...

I think it is more about the fan motor of the hard drive, to be sure of what we're talking here, it is the fan on the bottom right of the iMac ? the one under the optical drive, isn't ?

So i would just have to change that specific fan to solve the issue ?

Please, i would really appreciate some help here, thanks a lot for your time guys & have a really nice day !

Best Regards,

Hello Dan,

thanks for your time, i added the picture from TG Pro. Does it help or mean something to You ?

So when you say "The hard drive fan is just under the logic board near the hard drive." it means i could simply change that fan, right ?

And could you "circle" it on a picture or something so i can be sure which one it is - i already opened my iMac but i'm not sure i see which one it is.

Can we see it on the picture below ? If yes, is it the one from the right, or from the left ?

Once again, thanks a lot for your time, have a nice day

Best Regard

I guess you didn't see the pictures I posted in the PDF. I've pulled them out so you can see them directly in my answer. You need to completely remove the logic board to get to it.

The hard drive fan is just under the logic board near the hard drive. Your error does imply it is having a problem. I would run this app: TG Pro it will allow you to see more clearly whats happing with your thermal sensors and fans. Take a screen shot fo the main window (make sure you enlarge it so all of the sensors are visible) and paste it here for us to see Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente. That way we can make sure thats all we need to deal with.

Update (05/24/2018)

Your error message implied the HDD fan while TG Pro see's the optical drives fan as having problems.

Have you altered the system in some way? Is it still using the original HD and optical drive?

Hi Hey,

There is a third fan unit which is behind the logic board. You'll need to remove it to see it. Here's a picture of it outlined in Orange:

Its located under the logic board!
