The iPhone 5s battery drain and delayed charging

- I insert the charger lead when the phone is off, the phone starts up with the apple logo and starts charging

- When I insert the charger lead after a restart or reset the phone responds instantly - as it should

- But if I take the lead out and insert it back in, the phone does not respond. i.e. no beep and no electric charging icon next to the battery icon. But if I leave the charger in, the phone responds after about couple of minutes, and starts charging - THE MAIN PROBLEM

- If I take the lead out from the phone will battery fully charged the battery drains in about an hour or so even when the phone is not being used.

- The phone heats up a bit

Kindly help!

You most likely have a problem with your battery or the charging circuit. You must start by eliminating the battery as the potential source of problems. Use a battery utility, such as coconutBattery (for Mac) or 3uTools (for Windows). It will tell you what the health of the battery is. Anything less than 70% of design capacity will require replacement. You can easily replace the battery by following this guide.

If the battery looks good, then the issue will be with the charging circuit on the logic board. This will require a micro-soldering repair.

I have tried a brand new battery, after replacing the charging port and the charging lead. So, it seems the problem is in the charging circuitry on the logic board - U2IC - if I am correct?

Thanks for your response!

The charging circuit on the iPhone 5S is comprised of U2, which handles communication with Lightning peripherals such as chargers, and the PMIC (U7) which actually drives the current to the battery.

Might be that you have faulty charger port. Replacing and or cleaning the port could be your fix. Cleaning entails determining if there is debris stuck in your charger port, which can be cleaned with a tooth brush and alcohol.
