PowerBook 17" 1.67Ghz won't power on

My powerbook g4 17" 1.67Ghz LR model won't power up. Started with the inability to charge the battery. Bought a charger and extra batteries. Unit still worked off battery. About two months of this scenario and the unit would not power up at all. Charger shows amber but no power on. Changed out the DC-In Board. Didn't help. Could the battery on the USB card (opposite side of the logic board) be dead, preventing power on? Have not replaced this yet but thought it might be the problem as early Mac's would not start at all with the internal battery dead.

Sometimes a Book will not start if the battery is totally drained. Try removing the battery and disconnecting the AC power supply. Press the start button and hold for five seconds. Insert the AC adapter and see if it will start. If it does that isolates the power problem. If it starts check the battery connector for corrosion and connection to the logic board. I have attempted the method you suggest. It won't power up from a full battery or from the AC adapter. I originally thought the problem might be with the cable coming from the DC-In board, but I checked it for connectivity with an ohm meter and all was good. I didn't check the battery cable terminals for corrosion adequately although used tuner cleaner on them. Pushing down the power button for 5 seconds would only work if the PRAM battery is OK or is there a drain of an RLC circuit?
