Why won’t my power block work?

I have the basic Xbox one and I was playing maybe an hour ago on it and it was working just fine but I had to go back to my house so I packed everything up just as I normally would and set it out at my house but now it won’t turn on. The orange light will turn on if I only plug it in to an outlet but as soon as I plug it into the Xbox the orange light goes away. Is there anything I can do or do I have to replace it? I’ve already tried doing the reset for the power it didn’t change anything. Thank you for any help!

Do you have a friend that also has the original Xbox One? If so I’d first recommend seeing if the same thing happens when you use one of their power bricks, just to rule out the possibility of it being the Xbox itself. If that works, I’d recommend just replacing the power supply. Those can be really dangerous to work with, since they have capacities that could possibly cause serious damage if touched.

If the LED light goes away as soon as you plug the Xbox, it's because the power dies down. This means the DC power is insufficient. It could be due to power conversion failure or that there is a bad connection from the wall outlet to the power brick. I've had this type of failure and the starting cause was the three-prong AC cable to the power brick connection was loose..

1. pressing harder on it helped..

2. later I had to replace the cable for one with a longer connector,

3. and later the power brick failed.

So either of these reasons could apply in your case. In my case, the power brick was a cheap one and the result was understandable but an Xbox shouldn't have that issue. If you never had the issue before of it didn't give any sort of issue, try 1 and 2. But if the issue has happened before, the power brick may be due for replacement. Do the test advice here to determine if you need to replace it.

The Xbox. was released on November 2013 so it has been 4.5 years minus the time from release to your purchase, so depending on how frequent and instense you have used it.. that could help explain the power brick failure. (sorry for possible confusing language, I'm not a native english speaker)
