System Shutting down when idle for more than a few minuets

Hey all, I'm having an really odd problem with my macbook (running snow leopard). If I leave the system running without using it for more than a minute or two it will turn off. The odd thing is that if I continually use the system it will work just fine indefinitely. This happens on battery and AC power. Any ideas? Thank a lot.

Quick update: If I remove and disconnect the upper case the problem goes away. However when I replug the upper case I the system requests to shutdown every 2 minuets. This leads me to believe that the power button is somehow damaged. It can be fully depressed and pops back up, however it probably has something to do with the wiring. Is there anyway to fix this without replacing the upper case? Thanks.

What are your power settings for one.

Another question is, is it shutting down or just going to sleep?

If its just going to sleep, I would start there, post back if that is not the case, and I will go deeper into the issues.

Thanks for the reply Amurtiger. I had though it might be a simple thing with the power settings so I set everything to always stay on. Also I'm positive that its shutting down and not going to sleep. Thanks.

It actually is a shutdown

Checking the guides you have to replace the upper case. Here is a link to a similar problem. Good luck.

Power button doesn't work anymore
