Vertical lines after dropping

I dropped my MacBook and now a section of the screen has multicolored lines.

I've done some research but there doesn't seem to be any clear answers.

Is there any way to fix this myself or how much would a technician charge? I do not have a warranty.

Oh Boy! You did a good job here ;-{

Sadly, the display is damaged and will need to be replaced. Sorry to say this is such a new system parts are hard to find.

It's best to let Apple fix it between the labor & parts cost they can do it cheaper than an independent. Ask for the bench fee plus parts.

Thanks so much for your answer. As a follow up though do I have to go to an apple store to get an estimate? The nearest one is pretty far away- do you think you could give any kind of guestimate on how much a repair like that might cost?

Give the support line a call they can give you an idea. They can even send you a shipping box so you can send it in for service.

Does this affect other parts of the MacBook ?

Damage screens won't typically effect other parts of a laptop if the screen image is still visible like here. What can happen is the backlight subsystem gets damaged so the backlight power logic becomes damaged so if you're lucky only the fuse link needs replacing after the display is replaced. In some cases the LED driver logic may need repairs.

If you have one of the newer 2016 through 2018 models there is a known issue with the display cables getting damaged due to a design issue. I'm suspecting the speed you open the lid or closing it may be a factor on why these cables get damaged but thats not the case here.
