Black screen / itunes problem post screen replacement for iPhone 6s?

HI guys first post here!

I dropped my phone last weekend, which cracked an already cracked screen further. So much so that half the screen wouldn't respond to touch meaning I couldn't even unlock the phone!

So i decided to replace it myself (which i have done on a few occasions successfully) however something strange happened on this occasion..

I put the new screen on following all the steps i always do however, once finished i had a black screen. As my girlfriend ordered a very cheap screen without my knowledge i assumed it was a poor screen, and after trying various steps to get it to work, i ordered the screen from the people that i had used in the past (why didn't i do that in the first place!!!)

However... the same happened again. Strange. So i'm looking at a black screen but when i switch my phones silent on and off it vibrates and when i plug it in it vibrates and makes a noise, however it doesnt connect to itunes?!!

I do have one slight confession to make...i didnt turn off or disconnect the battery as i couldnt switch off the phone nor did i know (at the time how to disconnect the battery) but the phone vibrates etc so what does that mean????

Really really dont want to buy a new phone as im not on contract so could really do with getting it fixed!

Did you unplug the battery before unplugging or plugging screens?

Backlight filters / circuit is very easy to blow up on this phone due to the screen connector design while the battery is connected.

You can check if this is the case if you can see display via flashlight on the screen e.g on Apple logo when to replug battery and turn it on.

If backlight has gone bad it can only be fixed by microsoldering which reputable phone repair shops that offer a no fix no fee model will help you out with.

I used the flashlight technique you suggested and couldnt see anything...

I am beginning to wonder whether i have put it back together wrong, are there any steps in particular which that i may have missed/done incorrectly that may have led to this?

Well the phone boots up so the two causes are either backlight gone bad, but you have already checked if that is the case so it sounds like more likely a defective screen.

if it hasnt been used on itunes on that PC before, you would not have trusted the phone to the device, which means iTunes will not recognize it.

1) TRY A HARD RESET; power and home for 20 seconds OR until the apple logo shows up.

2) You could have a bad screen still. if the part cost you less than 75$CAD for the screen, its likely a low end part

3) fried out GPU? there is a possibility ESD or shorts have fried out a visual component on the board. unfortunately that would require a logic borar.

unfortunately not unplugging the battery or working on an antistatic mat have increased the possibility for it to be number three. but fingers crossed

I tried the hard reset many times now and still nothing :(

Im thinking of taking it apart again and starting over incase there's anything i've missed. Can you think of any common mistakes made in screen replacements leading to this that i could look out for and potentially avoid?

the top mistakes i notice with home repairs are as follows.

Removing the battery. Always disconnect the battery as the first action in any repair. failing to do so can cause the connectors to Arc, and fry out surrounding components, as well as overload capacitors if you remove their load bearing components.

Never use metal tools to pry connectors. Nylon Picks are best suited for lifting connectors. the excess rigidity, as well as the metalic composition can cause physical damage, as well as accidental shorts causing the device to fry out.

Never use too much force. force on lifting a board, or connector can result in physical damage

Always use Antistatic mats, and clips. These grounded mats help prevent ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) and provide a static free working area.

When lifting the screen up, never bring it past a 90 degree angle to the frame until it is disconnected. you can stretch out and tear the flex very easily.
