Why does my headphones not work for my xbox one elite controller

When I plug in my headset its says its not connected and I tried resetting and updating my controller and console over and over again and still wont work.

Even when it is plugged in it acts like its not plugged in and I plugged in the headset hard and still wont work. What do I need to do?

I have 2 Elite controllers and have headphone jack issues with both within 1 month of moderate use. They have not been dropped or abused at all. Adult used and kept in the case when not in use. I sent one to Microsoft for warranty repair and never received it back. It’s an awesome controller if it works. My next buy might be the aftermarket Wolverine.

I don’t have the elite controller but I do have an Xbox one controller with a jack and it won’t work the other day it worked fine but now it won’t work at all and I don’t know what to do anymore

Same.. both controller's are not connecting to headset, even the audio option disappeared from the system page when you press home button. I think there is some glitches in the console not controller.

- de

Anil, if the audio option vanished that means the port(hardware) isn’t connecting properly to the board inside.

Ive also found out, if you can’t hear or speak to people but get the audio option in the settings menu, but can hear and speak in party chat.

Try unplugging the power from the back of the console for 20-30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the console on.

You should be able to hear and chat again.

Rinse and repeat if it happens again.

Hi @agent40d ,

It seems that there may be a faulty headphone socket in the controller.

It might have come off the motherboard or there may be a problem inside the headphone socket itself.

There is a contact inside the socket that operates when a headset is inserted to send a signal that lets the controller know that a headset has been plugged in and for it to operate accordingly. If this contact is faulty then the socket will have to be replaced as it is irreparable.

Here is a link to the ifixit Sustitución de la Placa Base del Mando (controlador) Xbox One Elite (modelo 1698) guide which will help you to gain access to the headphone socket, initially to see if it is still connected OK to the motherboard.

Here is a link to just one supplier of the replacement part.

it is not a recommendation to use them. It is shown to give an idea of the cost of the part. The are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for Repair Part 3.5mm Port Jack Headphone Component for Xbox one Controller 1698 to get results.

Hopefully this is of some help

I had same issue 1 month into a new xbox one s purchase. Xbox sent another controller and 4 days later out too failed. Ordered head phone jacks on Amazon ( $12.99 for 3 and the screw drivers came with them). Replaced it on the original controller and it is now working. So apparently the head phone jacks can go faulty. Weird that this hustle happened on 2 separate controllers. Only common denominator is my daughter's headset. Curious if it is causing them to break.

Fix was very easy. Just received the repair on the second controller, but good news is that. Easy fix means we now have 2 working controllers.

I found that if you plug in your headphones very slowly it works. It has only been an issues with elite controllers and Bose QC35 in my experience.

I took my old elite controller apart, the headphone jack isn’t even soldered in. It’s sprung connectors that flatten over time or the plastic pin breaks(both on mine).

Bending the pins out fixes it for a while. Ultimately I have to solder them to fix it.

I recently bought a second elite controller and the same issue happened, got it replaced under warranty a few months ago, the same issue is happing again.

This is also happening with my original controller, I haven’t take it apart to see if the jack is non soldered yet.

When i had my old turtle beach headset and audio adapter this never happened, I upgraded to the Turtle Beach Pro series which don’t support the V1 adapter and I don’t fancy paying another £90 for the new one.

so I’m stuck having to self repair. I’ve messaged Xbox again to see if they can sort it. I won’t hold my breath as the controller is now out of warranty.

So I have basically the same issue. My normal controller stopped working for a sec so we needed to update it and it worked again. My elite tho doesn’t need an update but won’t work.

Your headset might be the other standard so it does not work for your controller.

You might need something like this:
