Ambient light sensor noto working after repair.

After repairing several iPhone 8 lcms, I am noticing that the ambient light sensor is not working on any of them. Is the sensor tied to the original LCM in some way? If i put the original lcm back on, it works properly. If so, any replacement lcm will not work fully after repair.

Try to scratch the paint away on the back of the screen where the sensor is supposed to look - similar to some aftermarket screens, the filter may be too thick for the sensor to see properly. If it works after removing the filter/paint, go over the area with a black sharpie. If you removed a perfect circle of the material, you can't tell a difference. I do this a few times a week.

Thank you for the response, but I am using OEM parts to verify that this is an issue. It is. No autobrightness and no true tone feature.

Went through every possible solution multiple screens. Multiple camera flexes and this worked like witchcraft. You sir are a genius.

I am encountering the same issue, the oem front flex is tied to the board but I even attempted to by pass this using reman glass to test just the LCD portion. in the video it is shown that I attach the assembly to a separate piece of glass. it functions with the OEM LCD but not the aftermarket. upon further testing I am encountering that this not only happens with aftermarket. but from oem to oem swap as well. keeping the home key and ribbon paired with its main board just swapping the LCD assembly. still results in no auto brightness function.

can not confirm but at this point I am reduced to believe they have paired something in the display itself to the motherboard

I had the same problem with a iPhone 8 light sensor not working after replacing the screen with original front camera flex, went to accessibility then display and text and turned off auto brightness and back on and it started to work like normal. Hope this can help others

Did you make sure that you have everything seated properly on the flex before putting the ear speaker and screws on (sensors seated properly in rubber mounting pieces, etc)? Also make sure that you didn't accidentally peel the light sensor off its flex because they are glued pretty well to their seating brackets. If that is the case, you will need to replace the flex which is a walk in the park.

Everything was seated properly and there was no damage to the flex. After replacing the original back in place, the ambient light sensor works properly. I have tried this with 7 phone so far, every time a different flex assembly is used, the ambient light sensor does not function at all. Everything else works.

I am just testing this issue using only OEM parts and screens.

- de

Also, the proximity sensor works properly, it is just the ambient light sensor.

I would assume that the screen replacement would be pretty much the same to the iPhone 7, I actually haven't done an iPhone 8 yet but I have screens for them.

The only difference I see on the frame is the added two clips at the top.

To retain true tone from screen that came with phone to a replacement one, the display chip data must be copied to the replacement screen so that true tone works on the replacement screen.

In short, the display chip info must be copied from old screen to replacement screen.

Unfortunately you also have to transfer the speaker/cam flex cable assay as it is paired to the MLB. I tried both, reprogramming/transferring chip data of the old to the new screen alone did not work (iOS 12.1.3).

Ive done my research and it’s just another thing Apple is doing to stop 3rd party repair. It won’t matter if you replace it with OEM parts it just plain out won’t work at all. It looks like Apple is really trying to shut down 3rd party repair.

Sorry, but this is not correct. Currently you can transfer the Display data with a special tool and you will have to transfer the sensor/camera/speaker flex cable from the old to the replacement display.

With this, everything will work again (ALS was solved through iOS 12, True Tone is not fixed through iOS 12 so far (12.1.3), but with changing the flex from the old to the new display this will fix True Tone as well.

Of course, it is still PITA but it is doable. Some of this might be related to the calibration that is Apple applying to the display/MLB in their factory, so they want t make sure even after a display exchange you get the same results. It is not (every time) just a bad intend to stop3rd party repair (just my view).

You need to burn data of the original screen onto the replacement screen.
