I replaced my lightning connector assembly and now touch id doesnt..

I recently got water damage to my iPhone 7 plus and a lot of things stopped working. microphones for video and phone calls stopped working but would work from time to time. the charging port would work but it would only work for charging not for earbuds and the phone wouldn't be recognized on my computer through iTunes but would be recognized in the file explorer. Anyway i got some advice from a phone repair guy and he said i needed to repalce the lightning connector assembly so i got one off of ebay and once it was replaced my touch id no longer worked and i was wondering it that would be a result of having a piece that wasnt a real authorized apple piece in there or if there is some other issue.

Chances are there is corrosion / liquid damage on the home button connector for the screen or the home button itself.

You may be lucky if you only need to clean the corrosion on the home button connector area, if not then unfortunately you will have to go with below:

You will need to take it to someone that does micro-soldering to get this fixed. I have managed to fix one with an issue like this after liquid damage, but only the home button stopped working properly.

Probably just coincidental that the touch ID happened to stop working after you replaced the charging port.

Agree...the OP may have damaged the HB flex while working on the phone. However, with a liquid damaged phone, that must be addressed first. Only then can you see what kind of damage has been caused.

Would i just be able to replace the home button to fix the issue?

Unfortunately no, replacement home buttons don't work on iPhone 7's.

Only apple can replace home buttons pretty much, they will basically charge you for an out of warranty replacement phone.
