Is it safe to replace my HP pavillion dv6z Laptop LCD myself?

I was wondering if it safe to replace my LCD on my new HP dv6z 3000 CTO laptop? I am willing to buy some anti-static gloves/wrist band. I talked to HP and apparently the accidental damage caused to my LCD is not covered by warranty. HP will replace it for $400, yet I found the LCD part on amazon for about $75. I don't have any experience, but I do have an HP repair manual. It is something I would really like to try, but if something goes wrong I cant afford an entire new laptop. Should I pay HP to repair it, or should I replace it myself?

If you are mechanically inclined and have the service manual to your model of laptop, along with a few simple tools, you should have no problem. I suggest going for it. I have replaced a number of LCDs in various laptops. It is not the hardest job in the world to accomplish. Just follow the directions in the service manual. You may glance through it to see what tools you will need. You may want to use an ice cube try or egg carton to keep the various screws segregated. Work on a nice clean table with plenty of light.

Yes it is safe. Use ordinary care.

I'd read over a couple of installation guides before deciding. Get the EXACT same display, same builder, to avoid problems.
