iPod neither turning on, nor being recognised by iTunes

Hi there, wondering whether anyone has any idea how to get my iPod Classic up and running.

I recently replaced the hard drive with a 128GB SDXC CF card with iFlash adaptor. I've done this before on another iPod and it worked great, but this time I've ran into problems.

When I plugged the iPod into the PC and opened iTunes it asked me to restore the iPod which I did, however all it did was go through the process without actually doing anything to the iPod.

What's more, the PC then stopped recognising the iPod and therefore I haven't been able to attempt it again via iTunes.

Now the iPod does very little apart from when you restart it, you can see a faint light, however nothing else comes on the display. I've tried it with the original hard drive and I get the same results. I've also tried charging it for several hours which didn't make any difference either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@jamieboy try a different computer and see if your iPod gets recognized.

Solución Elegida

According to the Troubleshooting guide, seems to be a logic board issue.

but before you dig in, check your type, there is more than one iPod Classic type.

Thanks for your help. I think it was originally an 80GB (A1238), if that's the original rear cover.

if its an 80 or 120 GB this should work: iPod Classic (80 GB and 160 GB Thick) Logic Board

@iphonepro334 the reason for existence of ifixit is to help others fix their device. It doesn't matter how old or what type of device. We are all about sharing knowledge and empowering users to fix their stuff. Our goal should be to extend the use of any device. This will help keeping things out of the mountains of e-waste we already created.

Apple, Toshiba, John Deere and plenty of others will never help us to fix the world once device at that time. Those are not the players we should rely on.....
