MacBook with 3x3 Wifi antennas

Hi

I want to buy an macbook 13 but I've one requirement. The device must have 3 antennas. What are the devices that have 3 antennas? I prefer the 13 but if possible tell me the list of devices that have 3 antenas.

Thanks

Why do you think you need three antenna's? Are you looking for MIMO support?

What is your need here? The more detail can help us help you.

I need to perform some benchmark tests on a router that is a 3x3. theoretically in using 5GHz, we can have 433Mbps per antenna @80MHz.

I need to check if I’m able to reach the theoric throughput (1300Mbps @80MHz on perfect conditions).

But despite of the purpose of the tests, what are the mac devices that have 3 antennas?

Apple doesn't offer much details on there systems beyond stating the 802.11ac spec. The rub here is there are two rollouts of 802.11ac - Phase1 (wider bands) and Phase2 (MIMO & MU-MIMO).

Looking at the IFIXIT guides can be a bit misleading if you are counting the antenna coax pads on the AirPort board or the WiFi device on the logic board as one antenna is often Bluetooth. All of Apple laptops use one or two WiFi antenna's (for a total of 2 or 3 antenna's). The newer systems are offering MIMO.

The best I can offer you here is the newest MacBook Pro TouchBar models (both 13" & 15") appear only to have a two antenna MIMO and the WiFi chips these systems are using are Intels Intel WiFi modules. Yet some people believe Apple is offering a 3x3 MIMO. Here is a review which used it to test its throughput: Testing the Apple MacBook Pro TouchBar WiFi: Does 3×3 MIMO Make a Difference? So either Apple's had a custom WiFi chip made by Intel that offers 3x3 but were is the third antenna? I can only guess they would mux the Bluetooth antenna.

I would recommend you do some digging into other laptop systems. Frankly, I don't know of any laptops that offer a three antenna configuration.

While I understand your desire to test using a laptop I think you'll need to move to a desktop system to gain a three antenna config.

Some of the antennae may be dual-band?

The 4th Gen Apple Airport Extreme MC340LL/A A1354 has an interesting set-up.

It runs 6 channels through 4 antennae!

“two of Apple 820-2519-A (dual-frequency) and one each of Apple 820-2177-A and Apple 820-2754-A”

Note that it can work better if AP3 and AP4 are swapped !
