Upper case differences 2010 vs 2011 15" MacBook Pro

Some keys went on my macbook so I got a "2011" uppercase assy off ebay. Turns out it was a mid 2010.

Almost everything bolted up except the airport assy due to the difference in number of antenna cables (2 vs 3). The 2010 case came with an airport assy and it connected to the logic board the same, so I tried using that.

When I got everything together all worked except the wireless, Wifi/bluetooth icons are greyed out/not installed. No wifi in system preferences network connection.

Should the older airport work with the 2011 components installed in the 2010 case?

Firmware issue? Bad card?

Looks like switching out the airport assy is easy but would be a PITA to switch antennas.

To be specific my 2011 is an A1286 8.2 2 Ghz, also got a new HD and clean install of OS 10.11.2 which was upgraded to 10.11.6

P.S. I have went back in and all connections look fine
