On my ignorance (I underestimated the procedures, I'm terribly sorry about this, never again!!!) I bended a little bit the battery to got access to the glue bands underneath it with the tweezers. So, it flashed out of nowhere and smoked a little bit. I assume the lithium is extremely reactive to humidity, that's why the

At this point, I left the iPhone on the work surface as is, but I truly don't know how to deal with this.

well you are lucky the phone could have went on fire, realistically I wouldn't have that battery in my house.

once the battery stops smoking you can try again but to be warned you have to be very carful with lithium polymer batteries.

if you have a metal sink id leave it in there or outside. In my tech department we use a safe for punctured batteries so its smothered.

if it feels hot while your working on it put it down. for future reference there are pull tabs on the glue and if you break those usally a low heat hairdryer works to soften the glue before removing the battery.
