Replaced logic board. Chime, black screen, nothing else.

I replaced the logic board in order to fix a "white screen". Now there is a healthy chime, but nothing else but black screen.

Using a flashlight hold it against the screen at a sharp angle are you able to see the faint images of your desktop icons? If you do the backlight cables as seen in this IFIXIT guide: Reemplazo del panel de visualización del iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 y 2210 in Step10. You may need to check the inverter as well.

If you don't see any icons on the desktop then the GPU logic will need to be checked. I would see if an external monitor shows an image if it does I would inspect the data cable connection to the internal display. If not the GPU board has a problem.

I will check with a flashlight as soon as possible.

I know I definitely have the inverter cables mixed up because when I replaced the logic board, I did not mark them for reconnecting (Step 10 says they are interchangeable).

I do not see a guide for GPU - do you mean CPU?

Sometimes the connections are not fully seated. I often need to use a volt meter to be sure.

No, GPU. We just don't have a guide for it under this series. Here's a different series: Reemplazo de tarjeta GPU de iMac Intel de 21.5 '' EMC 2389 as a reference. Its a bit of work to take it off the logic board.

Where can I see how to use a volt meter to check the inverter cables? Is there a video somewhere? I don't find one on Youtube.

I bought the logic board replacement on ifixit, and it came with a GPU on it, so shouldn't that be expected to be functional?

Lets focus on the flashlight test and then the external monitor. Once we can narrow down whats happening we can give you the next step. You may have a bad board. But, lets not jump the shark yet ;-}

Flashlight test - nothing but black screen. External monitor - nothing but black screen. Reversed and checked the inverter cables too - no difference. Footnote: all of this began with white screen, to which the answer after tests, was to replace the logic board.

if the screen is black open the mac and disconnect the screen from the logic board then clean the connector and reconnect it. Don't forget to make sure it's well connected.

Is the connector you're referring to the data display connector mentioned in steps 7 & 8 in the logic board replacement guide? Clean it with alcohol or just blow off any dust or dirt?

- de

so Iam trying to say that you can disconnect the screen and then clean the screen connectors with alcohol. don't forget to make sure it's well connected

- de

and about the blow dust just make all of it it's better to clean it all than clean a bit of it. (luckily alcohol doesn't damage electric components)

- de

Storm Builder - I doubt cleaning the LVDS connector will make any difference here.

A damaged internal connector or cable would not effect the external display which is also not showing an image (two different pathways from the GPU)

if you want to confront challenges buy all the parts that seem to be broken

if you want to make it simple go to a hardware fixing store

if you want problem solved buy a new iMac

sorry for the disappoint
