Touch ID not working

I know this topic has been covered multiple times, but I'm wondering if there is something else that is wrong with a phone we are trying to fix.

We replaced the screen with an ifixit lcd and digitizer setup, and then the touch id did not work. We then swapped back in the original plate with the home button cable on it, and the touch id still doesn't work. Could something else have been damaged causing the touch id not to work anymore? We can purchase another cable and try it, but just wondering if that's going to fix it?

The home button seems to function as normal, just the touch id is not working and will not let us turn it back on.

The touch id portion worked right before we changed out the screen.

Thanks in advance!

Most likely the "Back Plate" ribbon cable has been damaged. I have seen this several times where the home button and its ribbon cable are fine but the cable that runs on the back of the back plate no longer works. You can confirm this by replacing the back plate and ribbon cable only.

There is a chance that its the home button but would not know until you have replaced the back plate first.

Please reply back after trying this to give an update.

Best of luck!

Thanks Michael. We have the original back plate ribbon cable and have tried it, and still no luck... i will buy another new set and see if that fixes the problem. Anything we should look for on the inside of the iphone to see if its damaged in any other way?

@orangeboxdesign You could look at the connector and surrounding area. Sometimes you can dislodge a component around the connector (Cap, filter, resistor, etc...) when unplugging the home button flex. I would also check the "Pins" on and around both sides of where the home button plugs in and where the flex connects to the logic board.

The home button works fine, and you can unlock the phone still with the passcode... just the touch id portion is not working... the home button will still take you back to the main page when you swipe over, etc... so it seems to function as normal.

Touch ID can go bad from a partially damaged home button ribbon flex cable and the home button could still work.

ok, so you are leaning towards it being this cable as well then.

Replacing the screen will almost certaintly break your Touch ID. I’ve heard of some link cable rumors, but there is no extensive solution to this problem.

Jackson, this definitely isn't true. Screen replacement while transferring TouchID is routine, and I don't know why you're spread false rumours on this site.

Sounds like you damaged the flex cable when replacing the screen. Check carefully and take the following repair guide as a reference.
