WiFi not connecting (sees networks). “No hardware” with new card

Early 2011 MacBook Pro 13”

WiFi stopped connecting (says “cannot connect”). Reads wireless environment just fine. Every once in a while I can get it to connect for a few minutes before it cuts off again.

Changed the Airport card and cable, now it reads “No hardware found” when I click the WiFi icon. Switched back to old card and cable, goes back to reading WiFi environment but not connecting.

I’m so confused...

Where did you get the replacement parts? I'm wondering if they are good or the correct ones.

@jakeseifert - Can you tell us what the source of your parts. I suspect you go some bad parts here get a fresh cable & board. Make sure you remove the EMI foam which might be on the cable.

unlike windows that you can remove the "driver" for the wifi card under the apple computers is very difficult.

so my suggestion do a time machine backup and do a fresh install with the old wireless card. after that you can also test the new wireless card.

if the fresh installation doesn't work with the old card then (painful) but do another fresh installation with the new card.

if u find wireless not working at all new or old card there is a problem with the logic board.

last buy an external USB wireless that supports ur machine and see if works.

@carlit - I think you're reaching here... MacBook Pro's don't have 3rd party WiFi boards so you really don't need to deal with drivers unlike MS Windows desktops. Given the fact Johns system WiFi is fleeting I don't think this is a software level issue.

@captainsnowball - You can still find a few USB WiFi adapters but they are for the older Mac OS9 & OS-X's.

I reformatted with the old WiFi card before I bought the new one, it didn’t change anything. Couldn’t hurt to reinstall the OS again with the new card? I don’t have much to lose here...

Hi John,

Have you considered reading this article about Airport Cards?

If you read it carefully, there is a statement that reads Wireless cards for use in an AirPort environment may be either 802.11b or 802.11g. You should choose a card appropriate for the version of Mac OS X that you are using.

Please check and make sure if you are using appropriate card for the version of MacOS that you are using.

If you have seen the same card working previously, there maybe the problem with card, get it replaced (if it’s in warranty) if not, the only option is to Get New One.

Hope it helps.

John i am not sure at what step are you in now. There are many suggestions already. None offer a way to find out what the problem is.

I am a technician with 30 years of experience working with any computer or OS(operating systems), so i do a lot trouble shooting until i find out what is causing the problem.

If you are willing do a fresh installation as i have suggested first with old card, if every thing is fine. that is it.

If it doesn't work then another fresh installation with the new card if it works then ok.

This wireless USBPT-H10DN-1W from http://www.premiertek.com/ supports MAC's up to 10.9 Mavericks and I own one.

It might not support Sierra or High Sierra i have not try yet.

You will find out if there is something wrong with the logic board.

If you want contact me at Ccarlos4545@aol.com and i will walk you through to find the problem.

No charge at all.
