Can I upgrade iMac's 27" E7600 3.06Ghz CPU with 3.16Ghz E8500?

I have read about E8600 3.33GHz upgrade but nowhere about the E8500 3.16GHz.

They have the same FSB 1333, same Max TDP 65W so i suppose it would work. Although the stock E7600 has 1066 FSB i think the FSB will be downgraded/underclocked?

Can anyone confirm that?

Does it worth the warranty void in your opinion?

Thank you all

It would void

the warranty. Is what you gain worth the cost/effort? It is a socketed mobile Core2Duo, so you can upgrade it to another faster one.

I'd even doubt the expense of jumping to 3.33, but I believe that's as high as you can go.

Good luck,

Thank you for your answer.

You said socketed "mobile" just like some others forums i've read. You know it by experience or you just copied/paste from somewhere else?

As far as i know E7600, E8500 and E8600 are desktop processors!

The iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.06 27-Inch Aluminum features a 3.06 GHz Intel "Core 2 Duo" processor (E7600), with two independent processor "cores" on a single silicon chip, and a 3 MB shared level 2 cache.

I've never seen the CPU myself and i'm asking someone that has already opened the case of an iMac and might have actually seen it .. Thank you

The processor is socketed and there's a "Warranty void if removed" sticker above one of the heat sink's screws. Is the cost/speed benefit worth it?

I have the Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz iMac 27-inch too.

I can open my CPU up as I've opened everything (except the CPU) and changing hard drives and optical drives as Im typing.

My warranty is far over. :)

Update

Here's the Intel E7600 3.06GHz CPU in the iMac 27" late 2009
