No picture on display, but backlight works

I have a 13” Retina MacBook Pro (2013) that just randomly started booting up to a gray screen. I hear the boot up chime, Apple logo on the back lights up, and I can increase or decrease the backlight. However, I get no picture on the screen. Anybody got any insight as to what the issue is and how to fix it? I appreciate any help.

If it is lighting up a black screen (or dark blueish tint) the issue is more than likely the LCD cable; this model commonly has this issue after a knock.

Try reconnecting the LCD cable logic board side and screen side (disconnect battery obviously). The cable can be disconnected screen side by removing the assembly from the MacBook, sliding the hinge cover off and removing the WiFi antenna screws.

Unless it has been liquid damaged, this is the most likely cause, very common on 2013-2015 13" models

Thank you very much for the reply. When you say remove the assembly, do you mean tearing it down and removing the entire display?

I finally saw what you were referring to. I disconnected the 3 cabeles (battery, right side display, and left side display), reconnected them, and the display came up perfectly! Do you know what causes that? I mean, it’s not a time consuming fix, but if it were to occur where you don’t have the proper tools to get it open, you’d be in a fix.

I so appreciate your help with this! Much obliged!

@stacywells this happens after a knock usually; the cable doesn't come disconnected, but it causes an issue with the cable itself, which is sorted out after reconnecting it
