How are you connecting the display. Directly via a miniDisplay or Thunderbolt cable with a dongle or a hub device? Or some other means.

- de

I'm using Belkin THUNDERBOLT 3 express dock,my monitor is Samsung CF791.

- de

Are you using a MiniDisplay or Thunderbolt cable; or MiniDisplay to HDMI or Thunderbolt to HDMI cable. While the MiniDisplay cable looks the same as a Thunderbolt they are different!

- de

Belkin THUNDERBOLT 3 express dock has only one standard DP OUT to connect my monitor. My monitor's refresh rate is 100hz,

Solución Elegida

Sorry to resume this old thread… had the same issue, but found which is the “True Tone“ setting under Display Settings.

When True Tone is enabled, the Mac uses the camera to modify color settings for internal and external monitor. When you close the lid, the camera, can’t do that so the base profile for the monitor is applied to the external screen.

I just removed the tick from that option and everything worked as expected

Good catch! Zaki hadn't stated he had closed the lid which would have been a good clue.

thanks, this was my problem and the lid wasn't even closed. didn't realize that the True Tone setting within the laptop display's settings could affect my external display. cheers!

Helpful. Thank you. I found you can also check the display function to find the external monitor or a setting that may match or make the color more natural on the external monitor.

@zakizhang - Happy to hear you're using the standard DisplayPort. Often people are using the Thunderbolt ports which you can as well, as they are using the same cable between the system and the dock.

Did you try the other side's USB-C port for the dock?

If you can try using the systems USB-C port with a converting cable or dongle to help rule out the dock unit.

I've tried other USB-C port for the dock. But, the refresh rate of the monitor is too low (only 50 Hz). My monitor supports up to 100Hz refresh rate.

When my system is connected via the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Express Dock by a Thunderbolt 3 cable, and then use the standard DisplayPort to connect from the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Express Dock to the monitor, in this configuration, the monitors refresh rate can reach 100 Hz. However through such this connection the monitor displayed Red color in MacOS, yet when I run Windows10, the color of the display is normal on the external monitor.

Did you try an Apple Dongle directly on the USB-C port of the system yet?

- de

I haven't tried the Apple dongle, because the USB-C port or Adapter change to standard DisplayPort or HDMI, and the refresh rate and resolution ratio are not up to what I want.

Same monitor + mbp 2018 13’, same problem here.

I found a quick fix, that is to close the lid, however this means no keyboard+track pad.

Hope Samsung and Apple can do something to fix that in the future.

Did you post a proper bug report within Apple and/or Samsung? Very odd behavior!

I have the exact same problem with my 2018 15' MacBook Pro Touch Bar system.

Colors correct in clamshell mode. MacBook display open, that ugly Red hue over the screen, using a USB C to DisplayPort adapter.

Colors are correct via HDMI to a PS4 system, as well as to my 2011 MacBook Pro via mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter & cable.

What is the resolution & ratio your system is pushing? In both the 2018 MacBook Pro Touch Bar system and your older 2011 MacBook Pro retina?

I’m using a BenQ PD3220U 32 inch 4K with thunderbolt mine is Macbookpro 16” 2020 version whenever I connect to an external display it washes off the color and pixels sucks. Windows works perfectly fine.

I tried all the solution doesn’t work. HDR is off, Truetone is off, using BenQ Display pilot software, changed both sides for Thunderbolt 3 port, nothing fix. Kinda hopeless now. This is one of the best monitors.

Does anybody know a solution? I am willing to pay with Crypto if you can solve this.

After setting the refresh rate to 59.88Hz not 60Hz on display setting, the problem have been solve.

If you cannot set the refresh rate as 59.88Hz on display setting, why don't you try to use SwitchResX to customize refresh rate?
