The iMac 27" Retina 5K Hard Drive Combo Cable (14/15) - Apple P/N 923-00092 cable is the SATA & power cable for the HD of the older model (late 2014 through Mid 2015 iMac 27"). The rub here is the length long enough to fit your system, that is if Apple altered the location of the headers on the logic board.

Don't forget you'll also need this special in-line thermal sensor: OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for Hard Drive Upgrade for 27" iMacs 2012 and Later

But before you go down this path are you sure you want to do this??

Once you open the system Apple will wash its hands of any problems within the system (no longer covered under AppleCare). Given this is such a new system I would recommend you wait before you do this.

The other factor here is removing the display is a bear! All of the 'Thin Series' are. It's quite easy to damage the display and very expensive Oops! If you don't use the correct tools and follow the IFIXIT guide on how to open the system.

Here's the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Hard Drive Replacement.

Hello Andres,

Have you solved you problem ? did you get the correct Apple Reference for your Sata Cable for iMac 5K mid 2017 (EMC 3070).

I have to install a 1 TB SATA SSD into a 512 GB full SSD pre-configured mid 2017 iMac 5K, it has only a PCIe SSD and is not equipped with Sata Cable..

Thanks for your answer

Similar situation. I want to add a 6TB SATA HDD into a 512 GB full SSD pre-configured mid 2017 iMac 5K, it has only a PCIe SSD and is not equipped with Sata Cable.

Can I use the the Mac 27" Retina 5K Hard Drive Combo Cable (Late 15/17) - Apple P/N 923-00664 to run both the 512GB SSD and 6TB HDD? I remember reading an earlier ifixit post about using this configuration (but can't find it now...sigh). I don't recall seeing any information about how to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

James

@jamesbythebay You only have one SATA port on your logic board so you can only install one SATA drive (HDD, SSHD or SSD).

You do have a second port in that case its a PCIe/NVMe SSD blade drive slot on the backside of the logic board. It only supports the Custom Apple blade SSD's Apple only offers a 2 TB drive. Review this great guide The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs
