Cant format disk with OS Sierra Disk

Hi all, when trying to boot from my usb os x sierra drive i get the forbidden icon. This is the latest release and is not working. I cant find why this is not compatible. I also try with El Capitan. This is a Macbook Pro Retina 13" 2017 A1706 EMC 3163

How are you creating the USB OS X Sierra drive?

- de

Are you booting your computer and then running the installer app? Have you created a bootable USB volume (e.g., via createinstallmedia)?

- de

Im creating the usb with DiskMaker X, that makes the thing bootable

- de

@sbotalla , use Sierra's own terminal command "createinstallmedia" to make a proper bootable USB. You need a working Mac with Sierra's installer app on it. See this article. https://lifehacker.com/how-to-make-a-boo...

Solución Elegida

This machine requires a minimum of

Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.12.5 (16F2073)

so El Capitan will not work.

I tried with the lattest OS X Sierra available which is the one downloaded through Apple Store. Where can i get that version of OS X (10.12.5)? Thanks!!

- de

@sbotalla, to get the latest (10.12.5), simply delete the .app for the Sierra installer you downloaded from the Apple app store. Then go to the Apple App store, and re-download the installer for Sierra. This will get you 10.12.5 installer.

@sbotalla , if you have a fast WiFi connection, you can simply use Internet Recovery to format and reinstall to either the latest OS X for your Mac, or the factory version.

See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

'''Start up from macOS Recovery

'''

macOS Recovery installs different versions of macOS depending on the key combination you press while starting up. Hold down one of these combinations immediately after pressing the power button to turn on your Mac. Release when you see the Apple logo or a spinning globe.

• Command-R

Reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac, without upgrading to a later version.1

• Option-Command-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.2

• Shift-Option-Command-R

Requires macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the version closest to it that is still available.
