Replacing the BIOS battery in my Asus G53SX-NH71

My laptop's main battery has been dead for several years, but it wasn't a problem until just recently when it started blue-screening occasionally and eventually stopped booting entirely. I've been told that it's likely due to both the main and BIOS batteries being dead, causing the BIOS to freak out. A replacement main battery is on the way, but I'm uncertain of what exactly I need to replace the BIOS battery. Judging from various pictures I've seen of the G53SX motherboard on Google and eBay, it looks like a button battery that I could find at a local store. However, even if that's the case, I'm not sure which specific type fits my laptop. Can someone point me to exactly what I need?

Thanks.

Hi @acetone15

Normally a depleted CMOS battery will not cause much issues to your systems.

Some tell tale signs of weak BIOS battery is, when upon startup, It shows messages like CMOS Checksum is bad, etc....

What operating system are you using

If possible, run bluescreenview from nirsoft and screenshot what it says about it.

check more on your laptop hardware like RAM and HDD.

From I see your mainboard from google, the internal battery should be a CR2032, panasonic, maxell, are one of my favourite choices for this battery type.

While doing a replacement of the battery, try to clean off those dust that was accumulated on the fan and heatsink.

:)

I can confirm Augustine a depleted CMOS battery will not cause much issues to your systems. But check at first RAM and HDD then the BIOS can be corrupted if so you have to flash it. The 3rd possibility is the graphic chip can cause this issue and the 4th possibility is a damage in mainboard.
