Why some of my hardware stop working sometimes?

I've been experienced several issues for a long time, I always though that there must be some kind of virus in my desktop pc, but now I think the problem must be related to hardware issues, I'm not an expert btw.

First, my ethernet port (from the motherboard), stopped working, but sometimes it does for a lapse of time, then he literally dies, even after restart my computer will not work, for my computer is not even there, but sometimes I turned it off, and then turned it on and it's there!

Second, and I think must be related to the previous one, I experienced the same thing with my DVD reader, I can't even restore my windows because of it, and my reader is new, if I plug this into another pc, it will work just fine. I don't know why my hard drive is working, or the other parts, I can't really understand.

So, what could be the problem here? Could it be my power supply? Maybe I need a bigger power supply, currently I have a 400w.

Update

Here a little bit more of information about my computer:

  • Motherboard: NF61-M2 Amicro AM2

  • SATA Hard Drive 320GB
  • ATX-400 24P Power Supply
  • AMD Athlon x64 Dual Core 5600+
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • MSI NVIDIA GForce GT610

Sounds like either faulty connections, or failing hardware. Try unplugging your DVD drives' power and data cables and plugging them back in. Be sure to look for dust or other substances that might disrupt the connection.

Btw did you use google translate?

Hi, I need to know more about your power supply.

Take pictures if possible, some power supply could be cheaply made and falsely advertised the watts given.

consider removing non critical components and do a burn in test.

like using memtest, etc

More information about what kind of PC (brand, model) and the operating system would help. Some computers have built in diagnostics that you access when the computer first turns on. Diagnostics could show what parts are failing, although built in diagnostics range from simple to exhaustive testing. Some problems may be caused by software.

The things to look for include bad memory, bad hard drive and bad motherboard. Bad memory will drop part of the information as it is moved from hard drive to processor back to hard drive, an intermittent problem would make this information loss harder to detect. Bad hard drive may have bad blocks that coincidentally happen in the middle of vital data or drivers. Bad mother board could have failing components that stop working, Ethernet port is one and other input/output devices are another. The power supply is probably good, a bad power supply would show up as unexpected shutdown or complete failure.

This is just generic troubleshooting, a better diagnosis can be made if you can provide the model and manufacturer of the PC as well as which operating system you are using. Include more details about the problems and if you get any error messages or beep codes.

I added some aditional information, I followed Felix's instructions and now I'm checking, but the problem with the ethernet persists.

Try uninstalling the driver for the Ethernet adapter. Right click on Start button, select control panel, select Device Manager. In Device Manager, select Network Adapters and look for the Ethernet adapter and right click on it. You should have a menu to Update, Disable or Remove, choose Remove and if prompted delete the driver. Click on the Action Tab at the top of Device Manager and select Scan for Hardware Changes. The tricky part is that the Ethernet is not functioning and you may have to take note of the name of the adapter to do a google search for the drivers. Removing the device forces Windows to find update drivers. Good luck.
