light has gone out in lines and touch screen not working

I have dropped my phone before, and have a couple cracks but no internal damage was done. Recently my battery has been over heating, the screen has black lines through it and the touch screen has stopped working. I'm not interested in fixing the cracks, just the function of the phone. Does anyone know how I can do that myself?
